Description
This savoury mince recipe is the perfect balance of flavorful minced beef simmered with vegetables, herbs, and spices. It’s a simple dish that can be served with various sides, from mashed potatoes to rice or crusty bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g lean minced beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 medium carrots, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 can (400g) diced tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup beef stock (or water with a beef stock cube)
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs (or fresh thyme and oregano)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Sauté the Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, cooking until they soften (about 3-4 minutes).
- Brown the meat: Fill the pan with the minced meat. Stir and cook until it’s browned all over, breaking it up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
- Add Vegetables and Flavor: Add the diced carrots, peas, diced tomatoes, and tomato paste. Stir in the beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and dried herbs. Combine all ingredients and heat through.
- Simmer the Mixture: Cover the pan, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the carrots are tender and the sauce has thickened. Stir occasionally.
- Season to Taste: Taste the savoury mince and season with salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve and Enjoy: Serve the savoury mince over mashed potatoes, rice, or with a side of crusty bread for a complete meal.
Notes
For a richer flavor, try adding a splash of red wine when you’re browning the beef.
If you’re gluten-free, make sure to check that your Worcestershire sauce is compliant.
